Terms and Conditions

Chloe has a deep understanding that when working on a remodel project that the jewellery being repurposed is more than likely to have a sentimental value to the owner. Therefore, upmost care is always taken when working with these materials. Please read the rest of this section for terms and conditions.

1)    Bullion refining

a)      Bullion refining will be carried out with the greatest care. Please be aware that during the refining process you can lose up to a quarter of the original weight in gold/silver. If there is a need to add additional material to the piece Chloe will contact, you before this is done to advise of additional cost where necessary. When this is necessary the carat of the metal will be kept in line with Hallmarking standards.

b)      You will be provided with a list of “jewellery received’ at the initial design process. Your jewellery will be recorded carefully. Where there is NO hallmark on your metal, Chloe cannot guarantee how the metal will react to the heat, and if indeed it is genuine. Chloe takes no responsibilities for the reaction of non-hall marked metal in the heating and making process.

c)      Where Chloe feels the metal is not suitable for refining, she will let you know.

d)      Any materials not used are returned to the client in eco-friendly packaging. Chloe does not currently offer a service where gemstones or gold scraps can be taken in/towards payment for your items unless arranged at a prior time.

2)    Setting a pre-owned stone/s

a)      Chloe holds no responsibility, other than that of loss, for working with a client’s pre-owned stone.

b)      Due to the fact the history of the stone is unknown, Chloe cannot guarantee how sound it is and there for will not be held responsible for damage and breakages.

c)      Chloe will take the upmost care to ensure your stone is treated delicately and always kept safe including releasing from old jewellery settings.

d)      Any brakeage caused due to the manufacturing process will be replaced/refunded by Chloe Michell

3)    Hallmarking

a)      It is now a requirement of the assay office that all jewellery that has been reworked must be hallmarked. Even if your jewellery has come to Chloe with an authentic Hallmark it will need to be sent to the Assay Office to be restruck (if it is over the required hallmarking weight). This cost is usually included in your final piece and will be sent off to the Assay office on the standard hallmarking service. If you require your item sooner than expected there may be an additional cost for this.

4)    Safety of your jewellery

a)      Chloe has an insured and secure workshop; your jewellery is kept as safe as possible. It is labelled and treated with care to avoid any complications.

5)      Ring sizing.

a)      Chloe likes to size your ring size in person so she can ensure the fit will be exactly the right size for you. However, where this isn’t possible, i.e., this is for a gift, or you are too far away, there are a few other options

·       Ring sizers can be posted out to you with a simple form to fill in and returned. This is a good way to get a good size. Additional information about getting the best fit is on the info that comes with the sizers. CMJ is currently working on a return postal system but until then, you are required to post the sizers back and will be refunded the cost to you in whichever way you prefer.

·       You can post a ring to be sized for you, this is a good idea if you know it is a good fit or if you are buying for someone else and you have managed to get a ring of theirs to size

·       Get your fingers measured by a jeweller. Chloe uses the Wheatsheaf sizing and will cater for half sizes. Please state this to the jeweller sizing the finger, if only American or other sizing is available, I can convert the size.

b)      Other things to bear in mind. Thicker rings will need to be about a whole/half a size bigger than your original size, and if your hands are hot or cold there may also be a half size difference from the original size.

c)      If you are providing your own ring size, please take every precaution to be as precise as you can. It is your responsibility to get this information right and Chloe cannot be held responsible for incorrect ring sizing. Chloe will make the ring to your instruction and any error on your part may result in extra costs for resizing or even a full remake. Please feel free to discuss this with Chloe at any point. Chloe will do everything in her power to help you through this process if you need.
